Summer Programs 2022

River’s Way will be running eight weeks of summer programs on weekdays (Monday-Friday) during the months of June and July (June 6th-July 29th).  We will offer in-person programs near downtown Bristol at the Bristol Public Library, Internships with local businesses, Steele Creek Park internships, our two community garden locations, and the YMCA of Bristol.  There is no charge for these programs other than the fee for a YMCA membership.  Applicants can take part in some or all of the programs. There is limited space on our Tuesday-Thursday morning programs (internships) due to transportation and limited space at local businesses.  This is a great opportunity for young people with differing abilities, ages 14 and up, to be immersed in the community and physically active while enjoying the company of good friends throughout the summer!

To Register

  1. Complete the Registration Form by clicking the "Register for Summer 2022" button to the right.

  2. Fill out the Health Information Form, Program Release Form, and Medications Form (if medications are required) and return these to River’s Way by email, through the mail, or in-person.

General

Our summer programs start on Monday, June 6th and run through Friday, July 29th (total of eight weeks).  We will take a maximum of 12 participants ages 14 and up each day.  Participants who require 1:1 supervision should plan to have an aid accompany them.

YMCA

Our afternoon YMCA programming will take place Mondays- Thursdays from 1:00pm- 4:00pm.  We plan to run programs at the YMCA of Bristol as we have in the past.  Our YMCA programs include weight lifting and strength training, group yoga, and cardio workouts (walking outside, treadmills, bikes, and group cardio).

Downtown Mondays

On Mondays, we will be spending the morning in downtown Bristol.  We meet at Blackbird Bakery from 7:30am-8:00am.  We take a morning walk, and then head to the Bristol Public Library for a book club in the Teen Room, and goal setting/social skills in the Creatrive Learning Center.

Internships

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings, we will be doing internships with local businesses and the City of Bristol, TN.

Tuesdays we will pair young people with staff and Occupational Therapy students from Emory and Henry at The Burger Bar (restaurant), L.C King (clothing manufacturer), and Theatre Bristol (theatre) to learn different work skills at each location.  We will eat lunch together as a group at Burger Bar.

Wednesday and Thursday mornings we will be gardening and landscaping for the City of Bristol, TN at Steele Creek Park.

Gardening Fridays

On Fridays, we will be at our gardens at Central Christian Church and at the Viking Community Garden, our new garden site across from Tennessee High School.  We will start work at 8:00am at the Viking Garden in order to avoid the heat and we will finish up at 11:00am.  We will be supplying produce to those families of students and summer participants who work or have worked in the garden, in addition to setting up our produce stand at the YMCA of Bristol from 11:30-1:00pm.
