Summer Programs 2021
River’s Way will be running eight weeks of summer programs on week days (Monday-Friday) during the months of June and July. We will offer in-person programs at Sugar Hollow Park, at our two garden locations, at the YMCA of Bristol and at various locations when we run community walks. We will also offer virtual programming each afternoon via Zoom. There is no charge for these programs other than the fee for a YMCA membership. Participants can take part in some or all of the programs. This is a great opportunity for young people with differing abilities, ages 14 and up, to be outside and physically active while enjoying the company of good friends throughout the summer!
Complete the Registration Form by clicking the "Register for Summer 2021 Programs" button to the right.
Fill out the Health Information Form, Program Release Form, and Medications Form (if medications are required) and return these to River’s Way by email or through the mail.
Our summer programs start on Tuesday, June 1st and run through Friday, July 23rd (total of eight weeks). We will take a maximum of 12 participants ages 14 and up each day. While we do not know all the details at this point, we will be following CDC guidelines regarding COVID-19 precautions at the time of our programming. This will most likely require wearing masks, careful washing of hands and practicing social distancing. Participants who require 1:1 supervision should plan to have an aid accompany them. Parents will be required to provide transportation to and from programs. Pick-up and drop-off times are somewhat flexible though all Sugar Hollow participants should be picked up no later than 12:30 pm each day.
Sugar Hollow Park
On Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays we will be at Sugar Hollow Park (at the Lions' Club Shelter in the campground area near the back of the park) located at Exit 7 in Bristol, VA. Our Sugar Hollow program times on these days are 8:00am -12:30pm. We will be hiking, running socially distanced games, taking part in storytelling and playing disc golf. We have run camps in the picnic area at Sugar Hollow off and on since 2011. It is a perfect place to get out of the heat and enjoy time outside!
On Thursdays and Fridays, we will be at our gardens at Central Christian Church and at the Viking Community Garden, our new garden site across from Tennessee High School. We will start work at 7:30am in order to avoid the heat and we will finish up at 10:00am. We will be supplying produce to those families of students and summer participants who work or have worked in the garden.
Our afternoon YMCA programming will take place Mondays- Thursdays from 1:30pm- 4:00pm. We plan to run programs at the Y as we have in the past, but we will have a Zoom option for those who want to join us from home during a portion of the program. Our YMCA/Zoom programs include group yoga, MapMyWalk, weight lifting and strength training along with group games and activities.
