The River’s Way 2019 summer day camp for youth and young adults with differing abilities will run for seven weeks from June 3rd- July 26th. Activities will take place in downtown Bristol and at the Bristol Family YMCA. The downtown/YMCA location allows us to continue with our emphasis on fun, physical activity and inclusion in community based settings while allowing for flexible scheduling for our diverse group of campers.
This year marks the 26th year for River’s Way summer camps! We typically have 10- 12 campers on any given day during the summer. Ages range from 12- 35. We run programs with three well experienced full time staff along with a number of dedicated volunteers.
Monday- Thursday camp activities include downtown walking, a book club at the Bristol Public Library, theater with the Barter Theater staff, art at the Bristol Virginia School Board office, and basketball, yoga and weight lifting at the Bristol Family YMCA. Each Friday we will be gardening at the Vance Community Garden and on some Fridays, we will be cooking and serving lunches at Cafe Central at Central Christian Church in Bristol TN.
Drop off time runs from 7:30 AM -8:00 AM and pick up time is at 4:00 PM Monday- Thursday. We will be at our office at 10 6th Street in Bristol TN from 7:30 AM- 8:00 AM. From 8:00 AM on we will be walking at Cumberland Park unless it is pouring rain in which case we will remain at the office. We encourage all campers to be with us by 8:00 AM since walking is a big part of our program and we want to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures. Pick up will take place at the YMCA at 4:00 PM.
Friday pick up and drop off times are 8:00 AM and 11:30 AM at the Vance Community Garden. Campers may attend any or all days of camp. We will not hold camp the week of July 1-5.
