River’s Way will run three inclusive camps and one adult inclusive camp during the summer of 2008. The inclusive camps each have nine participants with disabilities and three high school aged volunteers. (Numbers may vary slightly with each program.) Bristol Virginia and Washington County Virginia residents who have need of financial assistance should inquire about camp scholarships offered through funding from Highlands Community Services. These scholarships are available for campers with mental retardation and/or autism.


This three day- two night camp is for youth and young adults with disabilities ages 15-25. Adventure activities include rafting, canoeing and climbing tower. This program works well for youth and young adults with a wide range of disabilities including mental retardation, mild autism, cerebral palsy and spina bifida. This is an exciting and challenging program, so it is important for campers to have a high level of enthusiasm and motivation.


This three day- two night program is for youth with disabilities ages 11-15. Adventure activities include high ropes, climbing tower, canoeing, caving and rafting. This program works well for youth who are able to follow instructions on a fairly consistent basis and who are open to being in a fun and challenging environment.


This three day- two night camp is for youth and young adults with disabilities ages 15-25. The program is basically the same as the program offered on July 7-9. Adventure activities include rafting, canoeing and climbing tower. This program works well for youth and young adults with a wide range of disabilities including mental retardation, mild autism, cerebral palsy and spina bifida. This is an exciting and challenging program, so it is important for campers to have a high level of enthusiasm and motivation.


This three day-two night program is run with adults who are consumers with Highlands Community Services.


Camp AIM: Where girls can Be Active, Get Informed, and Stay Motivated, creates a fun and exciting atmosphere for building positive self-confidence and learning new ways to be an active teen, all while making new friends and taking part in outdoor adventures at River’s Way. River’s Way Outdoor Adventure Center is a non-profit camp who is partnering with the Bristol YWCA to make a difference in the lives of Tri-Cities teens. Camp AIM is open to any girl in the Tri-Cities area, ages 14-18.

The majority of River's Way summer programs are contracted through local social service agencies and educational institutions. During the 2007 Summer season, we will provide programming for King College, Frontier Health, Omnivision Foster Care Services, Highlands Community Services, First Baptist Church of Gate City, Camp Ahistadi, Mountain Mission School, Bristol YMCA, and the Boy's and Girls Club.
