Osceola Island & Weir Dams at the South Fork of the Holston River

This duathlon/triathlon is a must do event for anyone working to get in shape this Spring. If you can cycle OR if you can run, you need to be at the Holston Grind on May 31 st ! The run segment is 3 miles (run twice on the duathlon), the cycling is 12 miles. Get a friend or a ringer to enter one leg of this race, you take the other. If you are runner, find a cyclist. If you are a cyclist, find a runner... and START TRAINING! Those younger than 18 can enter the youth duathlon (ages 14-17) with a 1.5 mile run (run twice on the duathlon) and a 6 mile cycle.

If you are a die-hard triathlete, sign up as a team or as an individual for the full GRIND. Run, cycle and kayak! Be a part of the Mounting Empire Challenge and compete in all four MEC races www.mtempirechallenge.com

Race proceeds go to benefit River’s Way Outdoor Adventure Center (www.riversway.org). River’s Way runs year long adventure programs with over 300 youth from disadvantaged families in the Bristol-Abingdon areas. The goal is to raise grade point averages and keep them high as students make transitions from elementary to middle to high school. Grades improve when adventures are used to motivate students to complete assignments. The results can be impressive – 11 out of 11 River’s Way students at Highland View Elementary School in Bristol, VA passed all of their SOLS for 2007!
