Tom HanlonExecutive DirectorTom has been the Executive Director of River’s Way since its formation in 1993. Tom’s education and previous work experience are centered around teaching, outdoor education and the development of leadership— themes at the heart of River’s Way programs. Before coming to River’s Way, Tom taught school for 8 years at the Minnesota Waldorf School. Waldorf Schools are private schools that emphasize strong academics, integrated arts and hands-on experiences as a basis for learning. Prior to teaching, Tom worked as a counselor in residential treatment facilities serving emotionally disturbed adolescents and as an instructor in an outdoor education center. Tom’s education includes a BA from Middlebury College, a Waldorf Teaching Certificate and a Master’s Degree in Business Communication with an emphasis on organizational leadership. Tom is married and has three children. |

Carson RiversProgram DirectorCarson joined the River's Way staff in 2004 as Program Director. He is primarily responsible for supervising and assisting the other program staff in developing and implementing programs that reflect the mission of River’s Way. Carson is a graduate with honors from Appalachian State University. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Management with a Concentration in Outdoor Experiential Education. Carson worked for 7 years in a wide variety of wilderness programs from North Carolina to New Mexico before coming to River’s Way. Carson lives at River's Way year round with his wife Christy and their dog Blue. |

Brynn RobertsonAssociate Program DirectorBrynn became a part of the River's Way family as the Associate Program Director in 2006. Brynn is a graduate of Cincinnati Christian University with a degree in secondary education. She has four years experience as a Resource Counselor at a camp for people with disabilities and has worked a number of years with kids of all ages. She has lead mission trips to a few different countries and has a great passion for helping people of different abilities. Brynn lives on camp year round with her dog Sadie. |

Knox CampbellIncoming Program DirectorKnox was born and raised in Bristol, TN, where he graduated from Tennessee High School in 1998. Knox is a graduate of Montreat College in Black Mountain, NC, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Outdoor Education in 2002. Knox continued his education and earned a Master’s Degree in Adventure Education from Prescott College in Prescott, AZ in the spring of 2007. Since leaving Bristol, Knox has pursued a career and lifestyle that has enabled him to work closely with both adolescents and adults in adventure-based settings in the mountains of North Carolina. Knox has worked as an outdoor educator in many capacities, ranging from a wilderness behavior specialist with adjudicated youth to guiding fly fishing trips. He has spent over eight years facilitating seasonal and year-round outdoor programs and looks forward to honing his skills even more at Rivers Way as the Program Director. Knox currently lives with his wife, Mary, and their puppy, Maggie Mae, in Asheville, NC, and will move to Rivers Way at the end of April. He is very excited to work closely with students, parents, and educators from his hometown and to be a part of the Rivers Way family. |
